Bhimashankar is an old and ancient temple located in the Sahyadri hills of Maharashtra, India. Located about 100 km from Pune and 225 km from Mumbai is a very popular temple town. Situated in a village named as Bhorgiri, 50 km North-West direction of Khed. It is among one of the twelve traditional Jyotirlinga shrines of Lord Shiva in India. Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary
Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary was created in 1984 to protect the habitat of the Giant Indian Squirrel in the Ambegaon and Khed Talukas of the Pune district. Situated at the height of around 2000 to 3000 feet, the sanctuary covers the area of around 120 sq km. Bhimashankar has beautiful climate conditions in the monsoon and winters. Visitors can get to see different kinds of animals and birds in the sanctuary. The area is surrounded by wonderful hills and mountains and makes the place perfect for many other activities. Rich fauna and sacred groves make the place beautiful to visit.
Hanuman Lake is a famous place at Bhimashankar. The Lake is slightly difficult to reach but its worth all the effort. There are many different species of birds at the Hanuman Lake. One can get to see many different types of rare birds and squirrel species at the place. During monsoon, the waterfall is the main attractions to the visitors.
